On July 12, 2024, Spain reached a historic record in photovoltaic solar energy production, generating 211.42 GWh in a single day. This figure, provided by Red Eléctrica Española, marks a key moment for renewable energies in the country. In relative terms, this production represented approximately 25.4% of the national energy mix, considering that the total electricity generation from all technologies that day was 831.92 GWh.
July 2024 has been an extraordinary month for solar energy in Spain. Although traditionally the peak of photovoltaic generation is reached in spring, this year the summer has proven to be even more productive. High radiation levels and increased installed capacity have driven this record, and much of this success is attributed to photovoltaic structure companies, which play a key role in optimizing production.
These companies, including ESAsolar, contribute significantly to improving the efficiency of solar farms by facilitating the maximum use of solar energy through highly sophisticated structures and components, consolidating themselves as a fundamental pillar within the sector.
Additionally, in terms of its share in the national energy mix, it is noteworthy that during the summer of 2024, photovoltaic generation increased by five percentage points compared to the same period in 2023, when it averaged 18.82%. The data, which are still considered provisional pending the end of the meteorological summer, already show why Spain ranks among the world leaders in clean energy.
Finally, looking beyond the seasons and reviewing the annual totals, the International Energy Agency ranked Spain as the world leader in solar energy’s share of the electricity supply by the end of 2023, with 21.1%, ahead of France, with 20.5%, and Germany, with 14.4%. This information serves as a boost for the photovoltaic industry and a challenge. We must maintain these levels of renewable energy deployment as a country if we truly want to be a leader in the ecological transition process.
